About the Epic Ride
There are many ways Rotarians serve their communities. On Saturday, July 22, three members of the Weston-Wayland Rotary Club found a new path to do that: They participated in “The Epic Ride” a charity fundraiser organized by Rotarian Warren Green. This year, Rotarians John Marchiony and Rob Mosher joined the ride. Wonderfully, Weston-Wayland president Katya Portnaya showed up unexpectedly at the 100-mile mark with water and snacks for the tired riders.
The Epic is a one-day, 160 mile bike ride from Wellesley to Provincetown, which follows much the same route as the Pan-Mass Challenge. Riders bike to raise awareness and money for the charitable causes that are meaningful to them. This year, the charities included: The Rotary Foundation; the Multiple Sclerosis Society; the Dana Farber Cancer Institute; the Soldier Suicide Foundation; the Audubon Society; the Alzheimers Foundation; and others.
Warren Green said, “The challenge of this epically long ride reminds each of us of the challenges faced by the charities and people for whom we are raising funds. Our sponsors respond to our commitment, embodied in our embracing an extreme physical challenge. Seeing what we are doing, they generously contribute money and good wishes. I’m always amazed when sponsors tell me, ‘Thank you for giving me the chance to support an important cause.’”
