Four Join Weston-Wayland Rotary Club

Susan Howards, Sandra Lundy, Wendy Nollman and Katya Portnaya joined the Rotary Club of Weston and Wayland on Thursday, February 11.

Susan Howards, a criminal defense attorney, transferred her membership because of the  energy and innovative initiatives created by the Weston-Wayland Rotary Club. Howards’ professional practice focuses on abuse, domestic violence, restraining orders and discrimination. “I met Weston-Wayland Rotarians through business programs and was invited to get involved with anything that interested me,” said Howards, ”so I did.”

Howards is having an impact, having joined the Rotary district-level Rotary @Work initiative and the team focused on diversity, equity and inclusion. “Susan has tremendous energy and passion,” according to John Marchiony, President of the Rotary Club of Weston and Wayland. In addition to all her work with Rotary, Howards hosts the Brookline Interactive Group cable TV show called  “The Safety Net” examining topics around abuse. Howards went to India on a Fulbright Hays Award after completing her Ph.D, practices yoga, and rows daily.

“Attorney Susan Howards, whom I have known for over 20 years, is a passionate, creative, tenacious advocate, a champion for survivors of domestic violence, and a most caring friend and dog momma,” according to Sandy Lundy, who also has joined the Rotary Club of Weston and Wayland. Lundy also is an experienced Rotarian and attorney. She is currently Of Counsel for Richardson Law, with a practice focusing on family law and all areas of civil appeals. Lundy adores spending time with her daughter in their tiny house in Provincetown. Her passions include the Red Sox, archery, fine arts and fine novels. In Weston-Wayland Rotary, Lundy plans to “continue to find great ways to give back to the local and worldwide communities as a way to honor the many blessings in my life.”

Wendy Nollman is the Executive Director of Traditions of Wayland who met the Rotary Club of Weston and Wayland shortly after arriving at Traditions in 2020. The Rotary Club created a bit of buzz at Traditions by delivering dozens of very large donated pansies along with dozens of letters to seniors. Subsequently, Rotarians participated in Traditions’ lobster roll and pasta dinner fundraisers, and another highly successful Coats for Kids coat drive. Even before being inducted as a member, Nollman joined the Rotary Club as a volunteer at the 2020 Christmas Tree Sale, accompanied by five members of her Traditions Team.

Katya Portnaya owns Boston Carriage with her husband and is a Master Gardener with a passion for combining service and gardening.  When she is not busy running Boston Carriage, she’s investing her time in the growth and development of her garden and several key initiatives in the Rotary Club. Like Howards, Portnaya’s introduction to the Rotary Club of Weston and Wayland was through the expanding Business Networking Series. Portnaya has joined the leadership team that continually refines the twice-monthly session.

Additionally, Portnaya has volunteered to co-lead the Conservation Service Team with Charlie Hamlin, who joined the Rotary Club in June, 2020 and immediately unleashed his passion for conservation. Portnaya volunteers thoroughly with the others in the Massachusetts Master Gardeners Association, and she maintains her own garden. She loves to travel with her husband and son and cannot wait until travel will be open again.
