Bring Your Service Project Ideas!

You asked, and we’re listening.

At this week’s meeting, we’ll be brainstorming new service project ideas, and we want your input!  We’re especially interested in hearing what our newest members are passionate about. With the support and experience of our longer-standing members, we can turn your ideas into meaningful action.

Rotary District 7910 has set aside funds for new service projects, so please come prepared with any ideas you may have, big or small, for projects our club could take on this term and next.

Your ideas help shape what we do together. We’re excited to hear your thoughts and collaborate to make a positive impact.

You’re Invited: Pickleball Night at Bosse Sports Lounge!

Join us for a fun and social evening at Bosse, where you and your guests can enjoy pickleball, shuffleboard, golf simulators, and the darts lounge. (Please note - this is a 21+ event.)

We have reserved two pickleball courts. When registering, please indicate in the comments section if you plan to play so we can ensure everyone has time on the courts.  Tennis shoes and athletic wear are great!

This week we will be meeting on Zoom with an amazing former member of the Rotary Club of Weston & Wayland, Michael Dexter-Smith, who will be joining us from Western North Carolina to share exciting news about a new Youth Hub coming to Rosman, a small and economically challenged town in Appalachia.

The Brevard Rotary is leading this transformational three-year initiative, a $1 million investment in Appalachian youth. Through this effort, they have acquired and developed the TenTwentySix Youth Hub in Rosman, creating a dedicated space designed to support, inspire, and empower young people in the community.

 Michael Dexter-Smith describes himself as an Entrepreneurial Philanthropist, someone who builds ventures with purpose and applies business discipline to community impact. Over the past decade, Michael has devoted much of his time to community leadership. 

As President of his Rotary Club in Hawaii, he led membership growth from 40 to nearly 90 members, making it the second largest club in the Hawaiian Islands

After relocating to Transylvania County, North Carolina, he helped grow the Rotary Club of Brevard from 9 to more than 50 members, focused squarely on measurable community impact. The club emphasizes action over ceremony, just meaningful work in the community.

Michael currently serves as Treasurer of the Rotary Club and its Foundation and is Chapter Chair for SCORE Western North Carolina.

The Rotary Rising Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) program identifies high potential, community-oriented students with leadership potential.

They are also encouraged to apply to represent Wayland and Weston at the 2026 Rotary Youth Leadership Academy, a 2.5-day leadership conference at Fitchburg State University in late June. In years past, approximately 200 students along with 200 volunteers take part in this weekend conference.

Bring Your Service Project Ideas Part 2!

We had some great conversations at our first service project ideas meeting, and now we’re excited to build on that momentum. At our April 2 dinner meeting, we’ll move into a second phase continuing the conversation and shaping the projects that will define our impact together.

If you couldn’t attend the first session, this is the perfect opportunity to jump in. Your ideas, perspective, and voice truly matter, and we would love to have every member in the room.

This is your chance to engage, connect, and help guide what we do as a club. We strongly encourage everyone to attend, your participation makes a difference.

On Thursday, 4/23, come and join us (rain or shine) for our Sapling Project Service Night - 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. at the Messina’s home in Weston.  (Address given upon registration) 

Dinner is included! Come on by and enjoy the FUN and camaraderie!

The short story is that the Rotary Club of Weston and Wayland has been distributing seedlings to first graders in Weston and Wayland to celebrate Earth Day since 2018.  We have distributed over 3500 seedlings to date in our community!!

We expect the 500 seedlings to arrive the week of 4/20.

We have distributions scheduled beginning the week of 4/27, and we have added the Loring School in Sudbury.

A sign-up email will go out as we get closer to the seedling's arrival for unboxing.

We welcome, Lindsey Brown, a Wayland native, who is the recipient of the David & Eleanor Morley Endowed Global Grant Scholarship. She recently earned dual bachelor's degrees from Columbia University in Neuroscience and Behavior and Trinity College Dublin in Biological and Biomedical Sciences. This fall, she will begin an MSc in Global Health Policy at the University of Edinburgh.

Her research focuses on the intersection of behavioral science and environmental policy. Last summer, she was a visiting research scholar at the University of Cambridge, contributing to a 26-country study on climate messaging and public behavior.

A competitive Irish dancer and literacy mentor, Lindsey is honored to be the Weston-Wayland Rotary Club's Morley Scholar and looks forward to sharing her work with the club on July 16.
