Opioid Safety
The Opioid Safety Tips Card
The Opioid Safety Tips Card project was created as the result of research that showed that most laypersons did not know how to properly handle their prescribed opioids. Full information on the Rotary Club of Weston & Wayland Opioid Safety Tips Card Program can be found at www.opioidsafetytips.com
Many of the tips on the card target behaviors and beliefs that directly contribute to the opioid abuse epidemic. When prescribed properly by doctors who have had proper training, opioids can be used to manage pain effectively in the short and medium term. But, when improperly prescribed, when abused and when diverted, opioids can be deadly on one dose.
To date over 95,000 opioids safety tips cards have been distributed throughout Rotary clubs in district 7910 (Weston northwest to Fitchbugh). In August, 2019, we decided to concentrate on our home towns of Wayland and Weston and combine our Annual Weston Antique and Classic Car Show mailing with the Opioid Safety Tips Card. It was a two-goal initiative:
- Invite car lovers to join us for our 26th annual car show;
- Encourage families to have honest discussions about opioids and other drug use in their community.
